Faculty of Law and HKIAC Signing ceremony

On 22 October 2021, the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) signed an MOU with the aim of enhancing cooperation and collaboration between the two institutions.  Both are highly ranked institutions, with the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law, ranked 21st in the world by QS in 2021 and the HKIAC, ranked 3rd worldwide for arbitration. Dean Fu Hualing noted that the HKIAC is a “strategic partner and the MOU will be of benefit to our law students.”  Sarah Grimmer, Secretary-General of the HKIAC noted that, “we are delighted to formalise our collaboration efforts with HKU and to work closely together to grow the next generation of arbitration lawyers in Hong Kong.”  Building on long standing collaboration with the Faculty of Law and the Faculty’s LLM in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution program, the MOU seeks to build on this foundation by supporting activities aimed at enhancing students understanding of HKIAC through academic seminars, workshops or other events, the development of joint research, and the promotion of HKIAC’s internship program to HKU law students and HKIAC’s Tribunal Secretary program.  Also in attendance were Professor Zhao Yun, Head of the Department of Law, Professor Shahla Ali, Associate Dean (International) and Director of the LLM Arbitration and Dispute Resolution program, Ms. Olga Boltenko, Part-Time Executive Deputy Director the LLM Arbitration and Dispute Resolution program, and Kiran Sanghera, Special Counsel of HKIAC.
