The Faculty of Law at HKU welcomed back a remarkable group of alumni at the Legal Academy for the Talented 2025, which was held from July 28 to 1 August 2025. This was more than a reunion – it served as a powerful reminder that HKU Law is where legal journeys begin, evolve, and come full circle.
During fireside exchanges, over a hundred secondary school students glimpsed the transformative power of legal education. Alumna Ms Irina Chan (JD 2013), now Principal & Counsel at KKR, shared how law became her launchpad into global investment. Mr Matthew Chung (LLB 2019, PCLL 2021), healthcare litigation associate at Johnson Stokes & Master, spoke about aligning purpose with practice. Barrister Ms Clara Wong (LLB 2019, PCLL 2020) of Des Voeux Chambers reflected on how mooting and advocacy at HKU paved her way to the Bar, while Professor Edward Lui highlighted how academia shapes the intellectual backbone of the law. United as former LLB classmates, their stories revealed the richness of diverse paths rooted in a shared foundation.
We were equally inspired by fresh perspectives from recent graduates Mr David Wong (LLB) and Ms Phoebe Yeung (BA&LLB), who offered insights on the transition from student to practitioner. Adding a powerful layer of context, alumnus Professor Trevor Wan sparked thoughtful dialogue with his passion for Constitutional Law, demonstrating how specialized interests nurtured at HKU can blossom into scholarly impact.
This homecoming was a living testament to the enduring spirit of HKU Law. Our alumni return not only to give back but also to illuminate the way forward for the next generation.
