In November 2025, Professor Carole J. Petersen—a longtime member of the Faculty of Law at The University of Hong Kong and currently Professor at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa—delivered a lecture entitled ‘The Right to Equality: Still Relevant in our Changing World?’ to mark the 30th anniversary of the Centre for Comparative and Public Law (CCPL), the oldest research centre at the Faculty of Law. The lecture highlighted, amongst other things, the main achievements in Hong Kong’s equality law over the past three decades and the role of the CCPL in these developments. Following her lecture, Honorary Professor Anna Wu Hung-yuk, Dean Hualing Fu, and Professors Albert Chen, Puja Kapai, Sida Liu, Kelley Loper, and Po Jen Yap shared their reflections on the contributions of the CCPL to legal developments in Hong Kong. The event was chaired by Professor Cora Chan, current Director of the CCPL. The event attracted a full house—with students, scholars, fellows of the Centre, members of the legal profession, and other friends from the community that the Centre has worked with over the years in attendance. The theme of the 30th anniversary celebration is ‘Equality, Justice, and the Law—Growing with Hong Kong and the World: 30 Years and Beyond.’
