Each year, the Rule of Law Education (ROLE) Project organises a Rule of Law Essay Competition for senior secondary school students to encourage them to think creatively about the rule of law and its significance in society.

64 students from 33 local and international schools participated in the competition’s 4th edition in 2022, and the winners were recognised on Saturday, 25 March 2023 in an awards ceremony on campus.  For both English and Chinese language categories, a panel of judges selected a Champion, First and Second runner-up, and merit awardees. These winners, together with their parents and teachers, attended the ceremony to celebrate the exceptional work of the students.

Professor Hualing Fu, Dean of the Faculty of Law, delivered welcoming remarks and congratulated the award recipients.

Also in attendance were Professor Yun Zhao, Head of the Department of Law, Stephanie Biedermann and Isabella Liu, instructors of ROLE, who presented awards to the winners.

After the ceremony, representatives of the Law Association of HKU’s Student Union led a campus tour for the participants and their guests.
